Engine Parts That Make the Magic of Combustion Happen

A car has almost 30,000 car parts and engine is one of the main component among these. An engine is the main hub of a car that makes the car to move by converting mechanical energy into kinetic energy through power obtained by combustion of fuel with air. The pressure produced by this combustion results into conversion of mechanical energy to kinetic energy.

It goes without saying that an automobile engine is based on complicated mechanism. An engine comprises of a lot of internal parts working like clockwork. Without doubt, for proper working of an engine, it is necessary that all its parts should work in good condition. Any abnormality in an engine part could halt your car. So, it is incumbent upon you to pay specific heed towards engine parts to avoid any panic situation. Plan well before time from where you can obtain Car Parts in UAE.

No doubt an engine is the jewel of the crown of a car. Let us pull back its curtain to unfold its various parts and know the function they perform:

1. Engine Block

Made of iron or aluminum, engine block is basic core of an engine. There are many holes in it to adjust cylinders and water as well as oil flow passages to make engine cool and lubricated. It deserves to mention here that water flow paths are wider than oil flow paths. Crankshaft, pistons, camshaft and cylinders are on it. Cylinders varies in number from four to twelve depending on vehicle. Engine block not only houses these parts but also offers various machined surfaces.

The holes machined in the engine block are basically cylinders and usually these are four to sixteen cylinders with respect to size of engine. The vehicles that you see on roads today are either four, six or eight cylinders. It may be inline, flat, boxer, W-shaped, V-shaped or Wankel typed as in Mazda. An inline engine as its name depicts, carries cylinders in a line. Whereas V-shaped, cylinders are configured in V shaped on block. Magic of combustion occurs inside of engine block. Like other Auto Spare Parts, you can have used or anew engine block to replace your old bad engine block.

2. Pistons

Pistons are cylindrical apparatus having plane surface on top. Actually, energy produced by combustion inside the engine block is provided to the crankshaft to push the vehicle. It is worth mentioning here that during each rotation of camshaft, the piston in cylinder travels in up and down direction twice. At 1250 RPM, engine piston moves 2500 times up and down in a minute.

Piston rings are located inside of piston which act as creating compression and thus reduces friction during consistent rubbing of cylinder. The pistons actually, pump up and down when spark plugs sparks and pistons then compress the air and fuel mixture for combustion process.

3. Camshaft

Located either in the cylinder heads or in the block depending upon engine style, camshaft is another important engine part. When camshaft is in engine block, it is termed as cam in block engine. Generally, now in all modern engines, camshafts are found in cylinder heads. Such modern engines are known as Dual Overhead Camshaft or Singe Overhead Camshaft.

The camshaft while taking rotary motion of an engine, changes it to up and down motion. Lifters movement is controlled by this up and down movement. Due to it valves, rockers and pushrods are moved ultimately. So, camshaft role is to streamline the opening and closing timing of valves.

4. Crankshaft

The crankshaft during up and down movement of piston, produces rotary motion and rotates with the speed of an engine. So far as its location is concerned, crankshaft lies in lower section of engine block in the area of crankshaft journals. Thus, this highly mechanized and balanced system is attached to pistons by a connecting rod.

5. Cylinder Head

As compared to other engine parts, cylinder head is somewhat precise. Among other components, cylinder head has valves, rockers, pushrods, spark plugs, valve springs and camshafts. Cylinder head is linked to engine with cylinder head bolts and this area is sealed with a head gasket. It is apprised that this head gasket needs to be replaced after wearing and tearing like other used spare parts.

Cylinder head functions to administer the passage ways, thus allowing flow of air intake into cylinders on intake stroke and exhaust passage which during exhaust strike puts exhaust gases out.

6. Timing Belt or Timing Chain

Timing belts’ main function is to ascertain the accurate timing so that engine could run properly. This belt is made of candid and rigid rubber with cogs to control pulleys of crankshaft and camshaft. Just like chain of bicycle, the timing belt is wrapped around pulleys with toothed edges.

7. Oil Pan

Oil pan is a container that collect all the used oil in lubrication of the engine. It is also known as oil pump. Its importance can never be overlooked for keeping engine surrounding tidy.

8. Valves

Valves are also important part of engine that control air flow, fuel and exhaust fumes found inside of cylinder head. To perform its function accurately, there are exhaust valves and intake valves.

For instance, a four-cylinder engine comprises certain parts associated to it. Among these are engine block, crankshaft, cylinder head, crankshaft bearings, vibration damper, starter, valve cover and oil pan. Further to detail about this, it is of paramount importance to know that for each cylinder, wrist pin along with bearings, retainers, piston, 3 piston rings, connecting rod with cap, 2 bolts and nuts, 2 bearing shells are there.

Sum and Substance

Above mentioned engine parts are the main parts and along with it, some other parts contribute their action to complete engine performance. There are wires, fasteners and hoses also in engine. Apart from it, oil and bearings all around the engine protect early wear and tear of engine. In similar manner, timing belt or chain ascertains that all engine parts offer their function at a specified time. Though, the modern cars now have sophisticated Automotive Engines that apparently are daunting yet car manual and your personal usage of car make you familiar with all these parts.
